#VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE CLAN ICONS FULL#
You might want to finish one before starting the other so you can give each your full attention. I do have a D&D world in progress right now but I think that it's entirely different with VtM* It's a jungle gym built for you to run around on. don't go so off-rails that it makes no sense why this character would've been embraced into this clan in the first place, but the lore you're given isn't a cage for you to live in. That's what makes characters interesting. It's a lore and mechanics tire fire if you do, and will make your very first WoD experience a total headache for everyone.Īnd, remember that all the clan lore you have is stereotypes and that it's possible for vampires to differ a bit from the assumptions of what the platonic ideal of, say, a Brujah is. Give them weird problems to solve and big drama and plotting to get tangled up in.Īlso, don't let them ask you to bring in other splats (ie: don't try to have someone play a werewolf or a mage in a vampire game, appease those urges with clan gangrel or clan tremere if you must). That's way more important than any system mechanics toy you can have or how many levels of aggravated damage you can deal in a round. Try and get everyone focusing on what their characters are like as people and what their wants, fears, hopes, and problems are. Then, outside the city? That's where the werewolves (that hate your guts with a zealous passion and are made of 100% Grade-A Fightgood) live. But there's only so much one fightgood vampire can do when someone clever turns the whole city over on them. It can get respect and can make you useful to powerful people.
If you can fight real good, that's great. (And is gonna be your neighbor for centuries, probably, so you better watch yourself real good.) You don't go dungeon crawling, the dungeon is where you live and the dragon is your neighbor.
It's about knowing secrets and outplaying your enemies because if you do things in obvious and dumb ways, an elder with a lot more clout in your city than you can have their minions firebomb your haven while you're asleep or something. Vampire is a game about running the long con because everyone has all the time in the world to put together more careful and subtle plans through their allies and underlings.
They'll avoid a fight unless they think they've won it in the planning stages. The thing about vampires is they usually don't end up in direct combat unless things have gone completely to hell.
#VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE CLAN ICONS HOW TO#
D&D players often roll in and, if they're system-focused people who like figuring out how to optimize for combat, it's pretty easy to build a fightmachine. If I can offer one tip for D&D players coming into Vampire, it's to emphasize that direct combat is not the solution to most problems. The above image is licensed under GPL 2.0.
